Tagua jewelry is made from Tagua Palm tree nuts that grow in the Amazon Rainforest in Ecuador.
Each 7 years female Tagua palms produce nuts. Originally nuts are covered with thick husk. One at a time each nut has to be peeled of its heavy cover until natural ivory color of the nut is revealed. Tagua is essentially vegetable ivory and no animals are hurt in the process of obtaining it. Tagua is dense and durable, it is lightweight even if the necklace looks chunky and feels smooth and nice on the skin.
This organic product is sliced into multiple shapes, sanded, polished and dyed in organic dyes, then handcrafted into necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Each necklace is assembled on artisanal cotton thread dipped into bee wax that makes the cord super durable; this thread does not irritate the skin and lasts very long time. The cords have extra length to make the necklaces shorter or longer depending where it looks the best with your outfit.
